Thank You Parents, Leaders, and Students

THANK YOU

We would like to say a big THANK YOU to all the parents who enable their students to participate in all that God is doing in the student ministries here at Highview. You all love your children so much and it is such a priviledge to serve you and your family.

Thank you youth leaders for all you do to help with student ministries. You help out every Tuesday and that is an amazing thing in itself. You all have the passion and desire to seek God's will and I really enjoy serving God with you

Students - you guys ROCK! God has poured some awesome sauce all over the youth ministry and we are so thankful for it.

We wish you all a Merry Christmas and hope that your time off school is fun.

CHRISTMAS BANQUET

Friends: There was a little confusion about inviting friends and the banquet. Friends for the banquet are free but they will need a registration form. Please let me know if you plan on bringing a friend by Sunday, December 5th. Ian can email the permission form if needed.

A Gift Game: We are going to play a gift game. EVERY student is asked to bring a dollar store item and/or an item found around their home [with parental permission of course! LOL] that will be wrapped in Christmas paper. There will be a designated spot at LRC to put your contribution.

TACKY-ELVIS-CHICKEN WING NIGHT

We're going to briefly talk about how Jesus' resurrection is nothing like the claim that Elvis is still alive and asking question, "The King came once - Is the King coming back?" You bet ya! But it will not be the hip swinging Elvis. It's going to be Jesus the Lord of Lords and King of Kings.

Prizes are available to those with the tackiest Christmas outfit, the best Elvis voice impersonation, the best Elvis side burns (real or fake), and the best Elvis moves.

Here are the prizes.

#1 Prize: $25.00 iTunes Gift Card
#2 Prize: $15.00 iTunes Gift Card
#3 Prize: Three $5.00 Starbucks Cards to be spread out to three people
#4 Prize: Three $5.00 Tim Hortons Cards to be spread out to three people

Friends are welcome!

Things Youth Need to Know for Oct 19-2010

1. Elvis Theme: Originally we were going to have the Elvis Theme night for Oct 19th but we are postponing it to October 26th. We need time to sign everyone up and find out what they want to do!

2. Operation Christmas Child Box: Take part in donating a box of items that would be given to children in poverty around the globe. The rough cost is $10-15. The due date for your items would be Tuesday November 16th. Bring your items in a plastic bag and we’ll make sure the boxes are there so you can assemble them on Nov 16th. Let us know next Tuesday (Oct 19th) if you want to help with this!

3. Operation Christmas Child Sorting Centre: We would like to book our Launch Student Ministries in to help with the sorting of the gifts for Friday December 3rd or December 10th. We need to know right away if you would want to do this. We can only accept youth 14 years old or older and we need an adult ratio of 1:5 to pull this off. So, let us know by next Tuesday (Oct 19th)

4. Pennies: Don’t forget to bring your loose change every Tuesday. Pennies can go in the water jug for us to count each month. By the end of the school year we’re going to decide where all the money goes! Other loose change can go into the offering box for other youth group purposes.

Spiritual Gifts, Encouragement Cards, Elvis Groups, Pennies, Article One

Spiritual Gifts Inventory:

Please look for an email from Ian that will have two documents called "Spiritual Gifts Inventory Part 1" and "Spiritual Gifts Inventory Part 2". Fill out both forms and make sure your name is on both. If you have already done this form before, we’d ask that you do it again for us! Bring in the form for our next youth group on Tuesday Oct 12th

If you do this Spiritual Gifts Inventory before you arrive at youth group you’ll help save us a lot of time!

Encouragement Card:

Take a recipe card or a scrap piece of paper and write an encouragement card to another youth in the youth group. Look for ways to encourage another youth in the youth group that isn’t a really close friend to you. Think about the past few youth group nights and the things they have done. I can guarantee you will be able to find something to encourage another student about.

Bring your encouragement card this coming youth group on Tuesday Oct 12th. Don’t come empty handed! Encourage someone!
Youth are asked to encourage other youth

Leaders can encourage another leader or a youth.

If you want to write more than one, GO AHEAD!

Elvis Groups:

This coming Tuesday night get ready to sign up for your Elvis Contest Contribution! You can sign up solo or as a group. Here are the categories – a) Best Side Burns [fake or real], b) Best Elvis Costume, c) Best Elvis Moves, d) Best Elvis Voice Impersonation.

Remember we are going to be looking into the question of whether or not Elvis is alive or not. Some people think that the claim that Jesus is living is the same as saying Elvis is still alive. Are they right or are they wrong? We’re going to look at 1 Corinthians 15 to find out.

Pennies:

Don’t forget to bring pennies for the water jug. We’re going to fill it up throughout the year, count how much we’ve raised, and decide on what charity to give it too!

Article One Concert:

Please look for an email from Ian about the Article One Concert Registration Form. Bring the Form and Money for this coming Tuesday night!

Razor Sharp Questions: We are continuing in our theme of Razor Sharp Questions this Tuesday. We're going to take a look at Paul's questions to the Corinthians about spiritual gifts. If you have faith in Jesus, He has given you a gift to use for His purposes. Did you know that? Are you aware of what your spiritual gifts are? Let's begin the exploration this Tuesday night.

Pennies: Bring your pennies every Tuesday and we will count them up each month. At the end of the year we'll decide where the money goes. There will be a few ideas. If you have any, please let us know
_____________________________

Elvis & Jesus' Resurrection

On Tues Oct 19th we are going to ask the question "Is Elvis Alive?" Answering this question will end our series on Razor Sharp Questions. We're going to dive into the questions Paul asked of the Corinthians about Jesus resurrection. Did you know that some people out there think that the claim that Jesus is still alive is the same claim that Elvis is still alive? How would you respond if you were asked this question?

Don't forget our contest as well. You can go it alone on any one of these or go solo. Whatever you do, come ready to "be" Elvis. Prizes will be awarded for the:
a) Best Side Burns (fake or real),
b) Best Elvis Costume,
c) Best Elvis Moves,

Important Launch Student Ministry News

Here are some newsy items

1. JR Pitch: The buzz about JR Pitch got really quiet over the past week or so. For a variety of reasons Highview's Launch Student Ministries will not be attending JR Pitch this year. Hopefully next year! We're going to take a look at joining in on a youth concert coming up in November as a possible substitute. Stay tuned for details.

2. Youth Kick Off Night: We had an amazing time on Tuesday, September 14th. All I can say is "Lava Monster." If you were there, you know exactly what I'm talkin' about. The big spiritual question we asked is "What am I expecting God to do in the youth group this year?" What would you answer?

3. Trading Post: Bring 5 tradable items and a friend to our upcoming youth night. Make sure your friends bring 5 items they can trade as well! Our B.H.A.G is to have 60-100 students at this event.  Two unknown people are going to get a pie in the face as well courtesy of the survivors from the lava monster game we played at the youth kick off night.

4. Razor Sharp Questions: Read 1 Corinthians chapter 1 and 2 in your Bibles before Tuesday September 21st. We're going to explore a few different questions found in this letter to the Corinthians that have the ability to change your life and the life of the youth group.  This is going to be our theme for the next few weeks.
